Circular BioFarm Studio – Circular economy & green micro-innovators in agriculture

This concept focuses on “Circular BioFarm Studio – Circular economy & green micro-innovators in agriculture” and proposes a learning design for vocational learners and trainers that can be piloted in partner countries. Participants trace a material lifecycle and develop repair, reuse or waste-reduction prototypes. Sustainable Agricultural Skills is addressed through complementary tasks. Partners compare local pilots and turn useful practices into a resource that can be adapted to different settings.

An editorial proposal inspired by titles in project selection lists. It is not the source project’s actual application or implementation description. Participant numbers, duration and budget must be set separately after a needs analysis.

Expert commentary

Logic chain from need to impact

  1. 1

    Need

Agricultural VET programmes include few circular economy and waste recovery practices, yet graduates need these skills on local farms. Evidence: curriculum analysis, interviews with local producers and employers.

  2. 2

    Objective

Develop agriculture students' ability to design small innovations that recover farm waste and give trainers practical modules.

  3. 3

    Activity

Partners analyse curriculum gaps in work packages, develop practical modules, pilot them on school farms and evaluate them with producers.

  4. 4

    Output

Circular farming practice modules, student micro-innovation projects and a trainer guide.

  5. 5

    Measurable impact

Measurement: number of institutions adopting the modules, student projects tested on farms, employer feedback. Example target: modules added as electives to official programmes in the partner countries.

Why is this example strong?

  • The need is defined with employers, a strong relevance signal in VET.
  • The green transition priority is turned into a concrete sector skill.
  • Impact is measured through structural change such as programme adoption.

How can you adapt it to your organisation?

  • Focus on the main produce of your region: olives, hazelnuts, greenhouse farming or livestock.
  • Add the chamber of agriculture or a cooperative as a partner or stakeholder.
  • For a first application, start with KA210, one module and one pilot.

Objectives

• Identify initial needs and develop learning competences related to “Circular BioFarm Studio – Circular economy & green micro-innovators in agriculture”. • Produce and test a circular design portfolio and replicable workshop instructions; also practical agricultural learning modules and a producer experience portfolio with participants. • Monitor progress through material reuse, product usability and the reasoning behind design choices and integrate effective practices into regular institutional learning.

Work Packages

WP1 — Management and quality Agree partner responsibilities, a timeline, participation arrangements and evidence collection. WP2 — Needs analysis and co-design Compare local needs related to “Circular BioFarm Studio – Circular economy & green micro-innovators in agriculture” and draft a circular design portfolio and replicable workshop instructions. WP3 — Development and piloting Participants trace a material lifecycle and develop repair, reuse or waste-reduction prototypes. Test the materials in different partner settings. WP4 — Evaluation and refinement Compare initial and final tasks using material reuse, product usability and the reasoning behind design choices; refine resources through feedback. WP5 — Dissemination and continuity Share tested resources in accessible formats and agree ownership and a post-project implementation plan.

Dissemination

Results are introduced to VET providers and sector representatives through a practical sharing session. Partners publish a circular design portfolio and replicable workshop instructions; also practical agricultural learning modules and a producer experience portfolio with accessible Turkish and English explanations and plan adaptations into other partner languages. Uptake is tracked through feedback from organisations that try the materials, alongside downloads. Shared examples respect personal data and content permissions.

Budget Logic

Resources are planned for reusable materials, safe hand tools and prototype trials. Each activity is justified by its output and required staff effort or materials. Existing tools and remote collaboration are considered; face-to-face meetings are designed around their learning contribution. Participant numbers, duration and grant amount are set after needs analysis; the source project grant is not treated as this concept’s budget.
